We know that children learn better—and faster—when teachers have a clear picture of what each student knows and what they are ready to learn next. The F.A.S.T. is an adaptive test that is designed to evaluate individual students' mastery in specific content areas and provide detailed information to help guide their individual learning track.
Q. Where can I find the secure browser?
A. Secure Browsers (flfast.org)
Q. Where can I find more information about the Secure Browser?
A. See document above
Q: What does adaptive mean?
A: In the testing world, “adaptive" refers to the assessment being personalized to measure the needs of every student. If a student answers a question correctly, the test follows up with a more challenging question. If a student answers incorrectly, the test follows up with an easier question. Adaptive tests make it possible for teachers to pinpoint what each child needs in order to learn best.
Q: Will this score be averaged in the student's grades?
A: This is NOT averaged in the student's grade in any way. It is used as a vital tool for teachers to gain information about academic strengths and weaknesses.
Q: What should be done if the student asks for help?
A: Students MUST take the test INDEPENDENTLY in order to get the most accurate information. If a student needs help on the test, encourage them that it is perfectly OK to not know everything and to try their best. All other technological assistance will be provided by the testing administrator during the time of the test.
Q: When will this test be given?
A: This test will be given 3 times throughout the year; fall, winter & spring for both Reading and Mathematics
Q: How will we gain access to the test?
A: F.A.S.T. sessions will be scheduled as a Class Connect for students. It will be found in Daily Plan and notification will be provided in newsletter.
Q: How can the student be best prepared?
A: Prior to F.A.S.T. , it is imperative to properly prepare the browser (more details to come). Make sure the student is in a quiet place so they can focus.
